In washington the theme du jour
Is to slash all kinds of spending,
Even if that ends up meaning
Social programs get a rending
Now there is another choice, of course,
That involves a focused taxing
On the richest folks among us
Whose own wealth has long been waxing.
Give the bottom rungs some succor?
Yesteryear’s fast fading tale;
Some new tax hits on the very rich?
Washington pol’s new third rail.
